Brush or Floss Properly

A lot of people claim they brush or floss their teeth daily but they don’t; this can result in one having bad breath. Brushing frequently while forgetting to floss is not a sign of good hygiene. Whenever you are brushing, make sure to brush in circular motions and gently to remove every plaque on your teeth. Unremoved plaque can harden, leading to calculus buildup and gingivitis (early gum disease).

Don’t forget to clean your tongue

Plaque also builds on the tongue but a lot of people focus on brushing only their teeth. Neglecting your tongue is not a sign of good hygiene. Many bacteria stay on the tongue, which can, in turn, lead to bad breath and other oral health problems. One way to clean your tongue is by using special tongue cleaners or use a spoon upside down.

Use the kinds of toothpaste with fluoride

Apart from looking for whitening power or flavor in toothpaste, you should also check for fluoride. Make sure that any toothpaste you use contains fluoride. Toothpaste containing fluoride helps prevent cavities in both adults and children. Fluoride also helps strengthen weak spots and exposed roots, and to help prevent the early stages of tooth decay, brush regularly with a fluoridated toothpaste.

Brush before you go to bed

It is a known fact that brushing your teeth twice daily helps you maintain good oral health. Still many of us find it hard to adhere to this rule and neglect brushing our teeth at night. Brushing your teeth before going to bed gets rid of the bacteria and other germs that accumulate throughout the day.

 Drink More Water

Water remains the best beverage for our overall health. Water also helps us to maintain good oral health. As a rule of thumb, Schwartz recommends drinking water after every meal. This way you can get rid of sticky and acidic foods and beverages in between brushes.

Quit Smoking and Limit Alcohol

Smoking and drinking alcohol can be a serious deterrent to your oral health. Do not use any tobacco products. If you smoke, quit and also limit alcoholic drinks.

Check your mouth regularly

Visit your dentist at least twice a year for a check-up. This will allow your dentist to notify you of problems such as decay and any other disease in your mouth.
